Show and Tell
Open Carving in the Lincoln Center the first and third Tuesdays of every month, from 6pm - 9pm, started 4 February. We had over 15 people attend each of the first two meetings!
On February 1, 1995, a group of 18 carvers gathered in the basement
of a fellow woodcarver. It was decided we could do it.
Officers, by-laws, insurance, dues, incorporation and a meeting place were
all discussed and decided upon. The Wisconsin River Woodcarvers, Inc.
was created. On March 31, 2001, we had our very first woodcarving show
and we have had one every year since.
After many years of meeting in a local high school, it was decided
we would meet year-round and not just during the school year. We now
meet at the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center at 240 Johnson Street, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. We meet every
Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm, with a monthly business meeting.
Every year we bring in 2 or 3 nationally-known instructors to
provide classes, or our own carvers teach club projects. A Summer
picnic and Winter Christmas party are yearly events.
Our club continues to grow, and has 86 members as of Spring 2013. Five charter members remain in our
club: Sophie Kubisiak, John Pastori, Bob Rude, Diane Swiggum, and Greg Wirtz.
