On February 1, 1995, a group of 18 carvers gathered in the basement
of a fellow woodcarver. It was decided we could do it.
Officers, by-laws, insurance, dues, incorporation and a meeting place were
all discussed and decided upon. The Wisconsin River Woodcarvers, Inc.
was created.

On March 31, 2001, we had our very first woodcarving show and we have had one every year since.

After many years of meeting in a local high school, we decided to meet year-round and not just during the school year. We now meet at a variety of times and locations, as follows:

  • at the First Congressional Church,  311 2nd St S, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494 Wisconsin Rapids, WI, on Wednesdays from 5:30pm – 8:30pm. The second Wednesday of every month is the monthly business meeting starting about 7pm. (There is still open carving).
  • at The Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street, Stevens Point, WI, on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm.

Every year we try to bring in 2 or 3 nationally-known instructors to provide classes, or our own carvers teach club projects.

A Summer picnic and Winter Christmas party are yearly events.

Our club continues to grow, and has 123 members as of April 2020. Three charter members remain in our club: Sophie Kubisiak, Diane Swiggum, and Greg Wirtz.

Our Motto….

“Keep the Chips Flying”
